Why should Chennai Super Kings suffer? asks Srinivasan

Srinivasan rubbished the speculation that CSK could be disqualified from Champions League T20.

BCCI president Srinivasan spoke to The Sunday Express and said that he had nothing to do with Meiyappan and that the law would take its own course. He also rubbished the speculation that Chennai Super Kings could be disqualified (from the Champions League T20 and IPL). Excerpts:

It is being said that the Chennai Super Kings’ future is in jeopardy after the Mumbai police chargesheet which has implicated Meiyappan.

Is there a charge against the franchise? Is there any accusation against any player? Then why should Chennai Super Kings suffer? The franchise has done nothing wrong.

But Meiyappan was one of the CSK officials.

The BCCI has suspended him and he’s not associated with the game in any capacity. As far as the chargesheet is concerned,the law will take its own course. I’ve got nothing to do with that. It is up to Gurunath to defend his position. But mind you,he’s not been convicted in the court of law.

The BCCI disciplinary committee took the decision based on its internal probe conducted by our anti-corruption commissioner Ravi Sawani.

You’ve been facing immense pressure since the IPL spot-fixing controversy broke out in May. How do you manage to hold off so much pressure?

My strength comes from my honesty. I’ve done nothing wrong and am clear to my conscience. I’ve been walking the road of truth. If I had played a bluff,I’d have been worried. But because I haven’t done anything wrong,I don’t have any reason to look over my shoulder.

How difficult is this period to you as a father and father-in-law?

Look,I’m a professional. I’ve learnt to take things as they come. The question you’ve asked is a very personal one and I don’t discuss personal matters in public.

Why is media giving so much importance to a fugitive who’s on the run. I don’t follow him on Twitter and am completely unruffled. Why shall I give importance to someone who doesn’t deserve it the least bit.
